Street view of la Villa Etienne

More sublime France experiences!

I know I should be more selective with my photos - but I just can't - I want to share them all with you.

Love the simple wooden chairs in the Cathedrals here = much prefer them to our pews!

Just couldn't resist another quick post on la Villa Eugene - the original mosaic tiled floor in the sunroom above is seriously LES BEAUX. Do you think there are any artisans willing to do work like this today???
I am taken with chandeliers of late - and this one is absolutely gorgeous - unfortunately you can't appreciate the scale in this photo.

Tonight was Moroccan - poulet and cous cous - delicious!
Peter, planning tomorrow's journey.

Is this your image of a French car???
Who wants to buy a little villa in the countryside...????

Peter is downstairs having breakfast, looking elegant in his jeans and thongs - surrounded by men in pink shirts and navy blazers...... I better pop down and save him...
Even the key is tres elegant!

Beaux Interieurs

Here we are in the exquisite la Villa Eugene on famous Avenue De Champagne, Epernay.
Epernay is the capital of the Champagne district in Northern France. Avenue De Champagne is the beautiful avenue on which all the famous Champagne houses have their "caves" or cellars. It is said that Avenue De Champagne is the most expensive street in the world - even more expensive than the Champs-Elysees in Paris, because of all the champagne sitting in the chalk cellars below the avenue.
The gorgeous 19th century Villa Eugene was originally the chateau of the Mercier family. It is steeped in history - only has a few rooms - and we were told that our room was the bedroom of Felice Mercier, the daughter of Eugene Mercier. Old family photos hang in the hotel and I can't help but feel a romantic link to the past. There is a photo of a very young Felice in the sunroom that is now the breakfast room - very much as it is today. The Mercier champagne house is home to Dom Perignon.
I have put a link to the hotel websit below and highly recommend a stay here if you plan a visit to the Champagne winefields.
